Before the performance begins, the audience passes through something. Working with an analogue projector, Azar Yazbek and Vertha Alvarez created a live visual experience that unfolded in real time as the audience entered the space. Over a tray of water, objects, colours and textures were introduced by hand, moved, layered and dissolved, casting shifting projections onto a suspended translucent cloth. Something between shadow play and waking dream. The images were never fixed. A window frame drifting, hands reaching, domestic objects surfacing and dissolving, fragments of a daughter's memory of her mother, of a home being dismantled, of feelings that resist a clear shape. The water kept everything in motion, kept everything uncertain, the way grief and tenderness tend to coexist. The intention was to create a liminal state before the story began. Not to explain, not to illustrate, but to place the audience somewhere between sleep and waking, where the boundaries between the remembered and the imagined are soft enough to feel true.
